Social Media Use at the AmLaw 100
The below table charts the use of new and "social" media at the AmLaw 100 (with a focus on Twitter use) and the firms are listed in the order of their 2009 ranking (ie in respect of their 2008 revenues). The icons link to the media listed. Please note that there are several footnotes at the bottom of the table and that the table was last updated on January 21, 2010. Corrections/additions/updates are very much welcomed.
This table was prepared in conjunction with our article entitled "Twittering Classes--Lessons For and From the AmLaw 100. "

All of our Tweet data is as at December 17, 2009. "1st Tweet" records the
oldest surviving Tweet. Tweets can of course be erased, although in
many instances the first Tweet itself was fairly dispositive as to its
"firstness" (not quite, "This is our 1st Tweet"-- but close). Compiling a complete list
of Twitter "hold" pages is practically impossible. In compiling our
list, we searched Google and Twitter for each of the commonly used
names/abbreviations of a given firm and logical suffixes (ie "law,"
"LLP"). We also consulted existing Twitter "lists." If we missed you,
apologies, but perhaps you should consider using other names. |

Facebook presence, ie use it to deliver communications or otherwise
enhance reputation (eg Crowell Moring's "Diversity" page) are noted
here.Summer associates pages, alumni pages and "holding" pages, of which there are many, are not included.
For those considering Facebook, Patton Boggs and Duane Morris should be
your first stop for examples of how law firms are using this
communication tool.

Given that the reputational value of a blog flows through to a law firm/partnership and that ultimately a law firm has the wherewithal to direct an employee/partner not to blog, we have included blogs penned by law firm employees, whether or not they appear to be officially sanctioned. We have not included blogs where the editorial contribution of a lawyer associated with a particular law firm is less than half of the total. |

Multi-media includes any form of audio or video communication. There is a condsiderable range of quality and quantity of these offerings and the inclusion threshold was low, ie we included any firm that offered more than one such communication.
